Amazon is sweating, and you will see why.
While Prime Day YOY growth was unbelievably soft, Walmart’s YOY growth was a staggering 24%.
After reading this update, you will definitely feel like Walmart is gaining on Amazon. As a side note, I will just say this. Guess which drones I see in the skies in Dallas right now? Amazon? Nope. Walmart dominates here. That’s telling.
- Big Spenders Chose Blue: Walmart shoppers outspent the competition. The average event order value reached $484 per person, easily clearing Amazon's $360 average.
- Walmart Customers Went Luxe: For Amazon, most purchased sub-$20 items while Walmart customers averaged $32. This is quite the discrepancy and speaks to the shift in customer demographics!
- Explosive Growth: Walmart’s digital spending growth rate was six times faster than Prime Day's year-over-year climb.
- The Six-Figure Surge: The biggest demographic spike came from households earning over $100,000, who flooded the site for high-ticket tech and bulk grocery deals.
- Hyper-Fast Delivery: Walmart weaponized its physical stores. Same-day delivery from local shelves spiked, with a 44% jump in orders arriving in under three hours. Drones are killing it for Walmart right now, and no one is talking about them.
- Rising Platform Competition: The platform crossed 200,000 active sellers, indicating a massive migration of brands diversifying away from Amazon to capitalize on Walmart's lower 8% to 15% category referral commissions. Walmart is courting Amazon sellers like never before!
- 3P Seller Domination: Marketplace sellers supplied 95% of the 420 million products available on Walmart during the event, proving that Walmart relies heavily on YOU to win these traffic wars. This is a wild stat when compared to Amazon, where 3P sellers make up roughly 60% of sales.
- AI Chatbot Basket Booms: Walmart's conversational Sparky AI assistant drove a massive optimization curve, resulting in 35% larger basket sizes for users who utilized the AI tool to find deals. If you have neglected your AI SEO this year, shame on you because you missed out!
So what? Did you seriously just ask “so what?” I’m kidding. You know what comes next. The e-commerce fight of the century.
Walmart is no longer just a budget fallback. By attracting upper-class Americans, protecting ad visibility, treating sellers with respect, offering low fees, and mastering rapid store-to-home delivery, they are transforming into an absolute e-commerce powerhouse for third-party brands.
I would venture to say that 90% of brands are still sleeping on Walmart. I really hope you’re not one of them!
Stop Lying About Being Made in the USA
We all knew this day would come. Walmart just rolled out a HUGE update regarding the “truthfulness” of your listings. Basically, Walmart is saying that if they catch you lying, you’re screwed. This update is your chance to get caught up and comply before you get found out.
Walmart has been the wild west for many years now, but they are quickly adopting many of the Amazon policies you know and love (I’m kidding).
FYI, this all stems from Walmart poaching all the best Amazon FBA executives over 5 years ago. We are seeing the fruit now. Get your seatbelt on. There will be more!
1. Truthful General Claims
- Substantiate your claims. Your listings must only contain verified, truthful information.
- Watch your phrasing. This applies strictly to air purification efficacy, third-party approvals, heritage origins, jewelry metal content, organic certifications, and textile contents.
2. Strict "Made in the USA" Alignment
- Match all content. Your product images, physical packaging, and item attributes must be perfectly consistent.
- Zero contradiction. If your listing claims "Made in America" but your backend country-of-origin attribute says imported, Walmart will unpublish your item.
- No outside transformation. Products cannot claim U.S. origin if any substantial manufacturing or assembly occurred outside the country. In other words, you can’t make 90% of a wooden bookcase in China and then do the paint in America and claim you made it here…
3. Total Ban on "Green" Keywords
- Delete restricted terms. You are completely restricted from using terms like "biodegradable," "compostable," "degradable," or "decomposable". Amazon has the same exact policy. Ring a bell?
- Check your packaging. The ban applies to both the consumer product itself and the product packaging images or descriptions.
- Ensure compliance. To keep your listings safe, make sure your items and descriptions contain zero environmental biodegradability claims.
4. PFAS & Textile Regulations
- FTC compliance required. All textile and apparel items must adhere strictly to Federal Trade Commission labeling requirements.
- Forever chemical restrictions. Products containing "forever chemicals"—including PFAS, PFOS, PTFE, and PFOA—are highly restricted on the platform.
Don't wait for a wave of automated suppression to hit your store. Don’t be stupid and think that you won’t get caught. You will. So be smart and update all your listings this week and never look back. The last thing you need is to be paranoid running your brand.
Be honest from Day 1!
