An Epic Walmart Listing Breakdown

It’s not every day that I hand out a 10 out of 10 rating. Sure, it might have been a fantastic book or delicious meal– but a perfect 10? Those ratings need to be reserved for the cream of the crop.

So when I saw this 10 out of 10 Walmart product listing, I knew I had to share it with you all! Let’s break down what makes this Birdman Creatine listing stand out so well against its competition.

  • Title – Simple, clean, and informative. What it is (creatine powder), a couple of highlights (“Vegan, Caffeine-Free”), and serving size. No wasted characters!
  • Hero Image – Shows off the beautiful packaging and logo. Well lit. Easy to read. And that scoop of powder in the foreground and glass of water in the background? A clear visual queue for how this supplement is consumed.
  • Video – A well-crafted highlight reel that doesn’t overstay its welcome at a crisp 28 seconds long. And the final frame sticks in your mind due to some elite branding work– Birdman: Take Flight.
  • Image 2 – Five product highlights all delivered with hyper efficiency in four words or less.
  • Image 3 – The nutritional facts with no wasted space– check out those attractive feature icons underneath them!
  • Images 4 & 5 – An athlete in motion, paired with product benefits drives home the value.
  • Image 6 – A very clever and humorous brand comparison. They aren’t naming names… but health supplement users may recognize those “anonymous” packages. Oh, and by the way, they’re more highly rated AND cheaper per serving, IF you were wondering!
  • Image 7 – This text-heavy image is expertly placed this deep on the image wheel; potential customers who have made it this far are ready for some more in-depth benefits of creatine.
  • Image 8 – Wrapping things up with an action plan, outlining ideal usage with a bonus expert tip.
  • Key Item Features – Four detailed and easy-to-read bullet points that provide all of the important information that a reader (and an AI bot like Sparky) needs to know.
  • About this item – No keyword stuffing here. Product details, specifications, and directions are informative and succinct. In a world full of AI fluff content, this direct approach really shines.

Regardless of what type of products you sell, the best practices on display here should be applicable in any category. In the age of AI, you need to focus on results, not just features. Customers are asking targeted questions now, so your images need to adapt.

I hope that you found this breakdown useful and that you have plenty of 10 out of 10 listings in your Walmart Marketplace future as well!

YOU Are Responsible for AI Info!

I remember the days when excuses were simpler. Who could forget the classic “the dog ate my homework” line? Nowadays, AI is more likely to take the blame than ol’ Fido. “I didn’t make that mistake, ChatGPT did!”

Our grade school teachers didn’t want to hear those doggo-based excuses then, and Walmart doesn’t want to hear these AI-based ones now. Per a recent Marketplace product details policy update:

  • You’re responsible for reviewing and substantiating AI-generated content before publication and for complying with all Marketplace policies and applicable laws (including advertising, labeling, safety, and IP). AI-generated content that misrepresents a product, makes unsubstantiated or unsafe claims, fabricates reviews or endorsements, or otherwise violates Marketplace requirements is prohibited.

I’m totally on board with this stance from Walmart. I like that the company is not being hypocritical in embracing AI itself and telling sellers not to use it. On the contrary, Walmart clearly supports the use of AI and understands how helpful a tool it can be for sellers.

But that’s exactly what it is– a tool. It is not something that you should be handing over complete control to. When it comes to your brand, the buck stops with you! You are responsible for all of the content on your Walmart Marketplace listings, whether you write that content yourself, hire someone to write it, or utilize AI to do so.

If you have been using AI to produce content, fact-checking its work is likely already part of your best practices routine. And if it wasn’t before, this update from Walmart should ensure that it is now!

Now that sellers are directly responsible for the AI-generated content that they use, AI inaccuracies are no longer just a potential inconvenience to customers; they could put your Walmart Marketplace listing or account at risk! Don’t take any chances– if you want to use AI to speed up or optimize your workflow, make sure that reviewing content for quality and accuracy is included in that workflow.
